The Group 1 Underwood Stakes is due to run at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday September 21, 2013.
The race is worth $400,000 in prize money and is run over a distance of 1,800 metres.
The 2013 Underwood Stakes will take place under weight-for-age conditions and is open horses aged three-years-old and upwards.
Scheduled to run as part of Underwood Stakes Day, the race shares its program with the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude, Group 3 Naturalism Stakes and Group 3 How Now Stakes.
Star three-year-old It’s A Dundeel is set to compete in the 2013 Underwood Stakes during his upcoming four-year-old season this spring.
The High Chaparral entire will kick off his spring campaign in either the Group 1 Memsie Stakes or Makybe Diva Stakes, before running in the 2013 Underwood Stakes.
He will then go on towards the $3 million Cox Plate and possibly the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November.
“I’m looking at starting him first-up in either the Memsie Stakes or the Makybe Diva Stakes, then he will run in the Underwood Stakes before the Caulfield Stakes and Cox Plate,” trainer Murray Baker told The Daily Telegraph.
“If he is in form and we are happy with how he is going we will look at the Melbourne Cup.
“The Cox Plate is the aim, as a colt I would like to run him in the Cox Plate, but no doubt we will nominate him for the Melbourne Cup, too.”
